Winning Poker Tournament Strategy |
Winning / Survival Tournament Strategy
First Priority:
The key to making money online, is to find a big tournament. Now big to you might mean a huge buy-in, but to me it's all about the prize pool. Guarantee tournaments are am ideal tournament to play. A "Guarantee" tournament is a poker tournament with a prize pool that is guaranteed to be a certain amount and can exceed that amount. For example a $45,000 guaranteed tournament is a tournament that is guaranteed to have $45,000 in the prize pool. Another great type of tournament to look for is a low buy-in that already has thousands of players in it. To find these, you need to go to a website with thousands of players currently playing, IE: Party Poker, PokerStars, and Absolute Poker.
Second Priority:
Now that we have that out of the way, we only have one thing to worry about, actually doing well in the tournament. Why the hell would you pay $20+ to lose a tournament, because a Jd 9d looked good to you preflop?? This question can be answered like so.
Pre Flop Hand Selections:
All pairs
All 21/20 (AK/QJ)
19 Suited hands in early position (Jd9d)
Third Priority:
Now that we know what we're playing, knowing how/when to play it is another need to know. I suggest limping all pairs below 10's, unless there is a raise of more than four times the big blind. This gives you a cheap way to see a flop, hopefully making a set and letting people that saw that flop with a weak hand flop nice as well. Pairs 10's and higher I suggest making a 1/4 your stack raise. The rest is up to you.
If you use the preflop hand selection and stick to it, without impatiently playing other hands, if the luck is on your side, you WILL do well.
